Friday the 13th was Unlucky for LyondellBasell LDPE Production
LyondellBasell's Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) reactor in La Porte, TX faced a process upset on Friday, September 13, 2024, taking production offline.
According to the TCEQ filing, Ethylene and Propylene emissions were released for more than five hours while safety interlocks and venting procedures at the reactor were activated.
LDPE production from the La Porte, TX site is relatively low at around 333 million lbs per year and it remains unclear if the unit has begun the process of restarting production.
LDPE resins have been snugly supplied and any production disruptions only contribute to the tight supply / demand dynamic.
